Cairns Listed (“we”, “us”) publishes a free fortnightly email newsletter and website about property in Cairns and the Northern Beaches, at cairnslisted.com.au. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Your email address, and your name if you provide it, when you subscribe through our website, a social media lead form, or any other sign-up form.
Anything you send us through our contact form, by email, by replying to an edition, or through social media messages.
Details provided by businesses that enquire about advertising with us.
Email activity: whether an edition was delivered and opened, and which links were clicked.
Website activity: pages visited, time on site, the website or ad that referred you, and approximate location (city or region).
Device information: browser type, device type, operating system and IP address.
This information is collected using cookies, pixels, tags and similar technologies (see section 4).
To send you the newsletter and any updates you’ve signed up for.
To reply to your messages and enquiries.
To understand which editions, listings and pages readers find useful, and to improve the newsletter and website.
To advertise Cairns Listed, including showing our ads to people who have visited our website or may be interested in it, and measuring whether those ads work.
To report to sponsors. We only give sponsors combined figures, such as total opens or clicks, never information that identifies you.
To meet our legal obligations.
We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we never give sponsors or real estate agents your email address or contact details.
We share information only with service providers that help us run Cairns Listed, including:
beehiiv – our newsletter and website platform, which stores subscriber details and email activity.
Analytics providers, such as Google Analytics – to understand how people use our website.
Advertising platforms, such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google (including Google Ads and YouTube) and TikTok – to show our ads and measure their results.
We may also give these advertising platforms a list of subscriber email addresses in scrambled (hashed) form. They use it to show our ads to existing subscribers, to avoid showing them sign-up ads, or to find people with similar interests. The platforms match these against their own users and are not permitted to use them for other purposes under their advertising terms.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Our website and emails may use:
Cookies – small files stored in your browser that help the website work and remember your preferences.
Analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) – to measure visits and how people move through the site.
Advertising pixels and tags (such as the Meta Pixel, Google Ads tags and the TikTok Pixel) – to record actions like visiting a page or subscribing, so we can measure our ads and show ads to people who have visited our site.
Email tracking – small images and tracked links in our emails that tell us whether an email was opened and which links were clicked.
These providers may combine this information with information they already hold about you, under their own privacy policies.
You can control this by:
blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings
adjusting your ad preferences in your Meta, Google and TikTok accounts
installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on
turning off images in your email app, which stops open tracking
Our service providers, including beehiiv, Google, Meta and TikTok, may store and process information outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries. By using our newsletter and website, you acknowledge that your information may be handled overseas. We choose providers we believe have appropriate data protection practices.
We keep your subscriber information while you’re subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we may keep a record of your email address so we don’t email you again. We delete other information when it’s no longer needed, unless we’re required to keep it.
Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link. One click and you’re off the list.
Access, correct or delete: email us and we’ll tell you what we hold, correct it, or delete it.
Advertising: use the options in section 4 to limit tracking and personalised ads.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information and use reputable service providers to store it. No system is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of information sent over the internet.
Cairns Listed is intended for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
We may update this policy as we add tools or change how we operate. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
For any questions, requests or complaints about privacy, email [email protected]. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
